Essential Job Functions:
Schedules skilled tradesmen and other employees for remodeling, refit and repair projects by prioritizing and assigning work. Conducts preliminary surveys of proposed projects including cost estimates, gathering budget information, monitoring capital improvement programs, coordinating construction remodeling schedules with other sections, interpreting blueprints and project layouts and ensuring that safe work practices are followed. Works collaboratively and monitors activities of other trades associated with each repair and refit project. Trains new and existing staff in current work methods to ensure conformance with accepted standards based upon such factors as work objectives, results desired and departmental goals and objectives. Conducts regular inspections of each vessels project, equipment, and hazardous work materials to ensure compliance with safety standards. Investigates and reports all accidents and injuries in order to determine effective corrective measures. Writes specifications and documents for contract projects. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education/Experience Desired:
High school diploma or its equivalent required. Over 5 years experience in the field or in a related area. Marine knowledge required. One year of supervisory experience.
Knowledge Desired:
Must have full knowledge and ability to operate lifts. Able to operate crane, forklift and tug boat (floats, barges and vessels). Full knowledge of bottom prepping from bare material to finish. Knowledge of oil spill recovery procedures and knowledge of rigging. Mechanical aptitude. Knowledge of tools and materials used in maritime building and maintenance work. Good written and verbal communication skills.
Special Requirements:
Ability to work under dangerous conditions and at heights. Ability to identify potential hazards like overhead power lines or weak ropes or cables. Strong work ethics with a positive attitude. Team player and leadership skills required.
