Riggers expertly uses ropes, pulleys, cables, chains, and other gear to move a heavy load from one place to another.  May work with crane operators to secure heavy loads.  Uses ropes and cables to erect the scaffolding on which other workers sit or stand when working at heights.  Ability to learn marine and safety regulations.  Ability to learn scaffolding construction methods and materials.  Collaborate with crane operators using slings and chokers and make sure that the object being lifted will not suddenly drop and crash to the ground.  Responsible for securing loads for lifting.  Provide safe access to work on and on board any area of the vessel.  Decide on the type of equipment to use to move the objects.  Safely build and breakdown scaffolding as needed.  Monitor, comply and adhere to all safety standards.  Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Excellent balance and ability to work under dangerous conditions at heights.  Ability to identify potential hazards.  Minor carpentry and wood building skills.  Able to use measuring instruments.
